Evidence 1 - Art Department
We got invited to visit the Art Department together with semester 2. Unofrtunately I was not able to attend because I had driving lessons between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM. So instead of being present at the Art Department (which I would have gone to if I had nothing else to do, because my girlfriend also went) I was driving around. If I knew it was this important to attend I would have changed the date of my driving lessons. Also going later would not have been an option because it would be too far away with my travel time of 50 minutes, I would have arrived at 02:30 PM because of the train departure time.
(The picture below was before I even heard of the Art Department event).
Evidence 2 - Career day
I went to the career day on the 17th of April because I wanted to get more information to help me decide on a study direction for semester 4. Since we have to choose a profile soon, I thought it would be a good opportunity to explore my options and figure out what might suit me best. I was mainly focused on the profiles I was already interested in, but I also checked out a few others just to keep an open mind.
At the event, I talked to several teachers and students who gave me more in-depth information about what I could expect from each profile. I found out what kind of subjects I’d be learning, what kind of projects I’d be doing, and also what skills I’d develop along the way. It helped me understand the differences between the profiles much better.
I especially appreciated hearing about the new things I would learn during the profile phase—things that haven’t been covered in the earlier semesters. That really gave me a better idea of what direction I’d like to go in and what I can expect in terms of workload and learning goals. Overall, the career day was super useful, and I’m glad I went because I now feel more confident in making my choice.
Evidence 3 - Profile Choice
I had to make a decision about my study direction for next semester, so I spent some time researching all the different options. I wanted to be sure about my choice, so I looked into every profile to get a clear picture of what each one was about. My semester coach sent me a really helpful link that had an overview of all the available study directions. I went through every single one before even starting to consider which ones might be a good fit for me.
This helped a lot because it quickly became clear which directions didn’t interest me at all, and which ones actually stood out. After narrowing it down, I had a conversation with my semester coach about the ones I was considering. At first, I had around four profiles in mind, but two of them really stood out to me—mainly because I’ve always had a strong interest in that area. The direction that spoke to me most was AI, so I focused on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data, and also Applied Generative AI.
The career day helped a lot too—it gave me more insight into what I would actually be learning and working on during the semesters. That really confirmed that I was leaning in the right direction. I’m genuinely excited for next semester and everything I’ll get to explore. I really hope I made the right choice, but so far it feels like the best fit for me.
Evidence 4 - Showcase event OIL
On the 15th of May, I took part in the walk-around presentation. The goal was to visit different tables and check out the projects that other students had been working on. According to my teachers, we had to visit at least four tables, so I made sure to do that right away. I ended up visiting three tables in the morning (between 10:00 and 12:00) and two more in the afternoon (from 13:00 to 15:00).
It was actually a really fun and inspiring experience. All the tables I visited had interesting concepts, and some of them even had really impressive prototypes that were fun to use or interact with. A few of them even gave me ideas for things I might want to try out in my own project. It was cool to see how other students approached their challenges and what creative solutions they came up with.
For every table I visited, I also had to fill in a feedback form—mainly for myself. I tried to take it seriously and give proper feedback, not just for them, but also to reflect on what I could take away and apply to my own work. Overall, it was a useful day that helped spark some new ideas and gave me a better perspective on different ways to tackle a project.
